Transcript:
- In a 2019 report, the National Council of Disability Disabeled revealed that disabeled individuals including those with autism, intellectual disability, mental illness, and chronic ailments were being denied organ transplants due to groundless assumptions about the quality of life and ability to comply with post-operative care procedures. However, data showed that their overall transplant results were as good as the general population (1)
- 38% of disabled adults visit their physician more than ten times in the past 12 months, compared to only 6% for non disabled adults (2)
- Disabled women are less likely to have a Pap test and mammogram screening, with fewer disabled women reporting having their privacy respected and having the procedure explained compared to non disabled individuals (3)
- 65% of ADHD adults had early onset bipolar disorder, compared to only 20% in non ADHD adults (4)
- Approximately 50% of ADHD individuals display comorbid anxiety with severe anxiety symptoms
- Autistic individuals are 2.5 more times likely to die early compared to neurotypical adults with suicide, neurological disorders, and circulatory disorders as some of the leading causes (5)
- Disabled adults report frequent mental distress, or 14 or more self-report mentally unhealthy days, about 4.6 times as often as non-disabled adults. Frequent mental distress can lead to adverse health behavior, chronic conditions, and mental disorder (6)
